MoE Season 3, Round 6 - 6hrs of Kyoto

Postby PaulC2K on Thu Apr 17, 2008 10:40 pm

The finale of Masters of Endurance was held recently at Kyoto National GP, before the final race the GT1 drivers knew provided they finished no worse than a place behind championship rivals #low-racing that the title would be ours, while the GT2 class championship had been decided the previous round and Qualifying showed signs of what promised to be an eventful final round, with #low putting in the fastest lap in Q2 to take pole, with Mercury GT1 just behind them in 2nd, and in GT2 class new boy Fox 2 took the reins for the first time and put the car on pole.

In the race things started promising, Bawbag made yet another great start having managed to get the jump over #low under braking for the first chicane, even after holding it on 2 wheels through half of it! #low had pressure from the following pack and ended up losing a few places which put them down to 5th. At the 4hr mark a D-T speeding penalty was given to us putting us 20sec behind new leaders nfaculty and set things up for an extremely close finish. With nfaculty needing to make a splash & dash near the end of the race we decided to risk 2nd place as we realised our tyres were 2 laps shy of going the full distance, Jonesy took it easy on the rubber and thankfully the decision paid off for us in the end and we finished 10sec ahead of them which secured the honours of MoE season 3 champions as #low-racing finished 3rd, 2 laps down.
Unfortunately for the GT2 car engine damage picked up in the first hour of the race and meant we were losing 3-4kph around the oval and a 3rd place finish was as good as could be managed under the circumstances.
Congratulations to the GT1 team on yet another race win, and a fantastic finish to the season.
